'Paintings, like dreams, have a life of their own and I have always painted very much the way I dream.' - Leonor Fini
On view from April 7 to May 24, the exhibition inaugurates Nagas’ new space at 47 W 28th St, a historic New York City Landmark once central to Tin Pan Alley and later home to Galeria Nara Roesler. Now, Nagas begins a new chapter in its legacy, bringing fresh perspectives to a place long tied to artistic innovation.
Leonor Fini (1907–1996) defied categorization, rejecting the confines of Surrealism while embracing a world of fluid identities and shifting power dynamics. Best known for her grand, theatrical paintings, she also created an intimate and deeply psychological body of works on paper. This exhibition focuses on her small-scale portraits—ghostly sketches, androgynous figures, and metamorphic faces—that capture Fini’s fascination with transformation and the tension between reality and dream.
