Nagas is an art gallery based in New York specializing in historical and rediscovered artists.

Built in 1852, 47 W 28th St is a New York City Landmark, one of the last surviving Italianate-style row buildings in the area. Its history is deeply tied to the evolution of American culture.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this block was the heart of Tin Pan Alley, where the modern music industry was born. At least 10 musicians’ and publishers’ offices operated out of this very building, alongside the New York Clipper, the leading entertainment magazine of the time. This street saw the rise of Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and James Reese Europe, composers and musicians who shaped American music as we know it.

As the city evolved, so did 28th Street. The neighborhood transitioned into a hub for the garment and textile industries, but creativity never left. In 2016Galerie Nara Roesler opened here, becoming the first Brazilian art gallery in New York and continuing the building’s legacy of artistic innovation.

Nowadays, the space is home to Nagas, and the next chapter is about rewriting history with the great forgotten names of art.
